“Decatur House A Gift”
Our dear Mom and we, her family, have been blessed by our involvement with Decatur House, a home of assisted living in Sandwich.
When first introduced to assisted-living at a much less intimate location, Mom of course resisted with an “I can take care of myself” attitude. After all, she had been independent and very active all of her life. We were able to get Mom’s name on the Decatur House waiting list and wait, well…it was worth it!
These last 21 months of my mother’s life as a Decatur House resident were a gift…God’s grace, I believe. There, her very soul was nourished. She learned the fine art of accepting help from others after her own long history of helping people within her family, church, and community.
The stress of her hospitalization during Christmastime subsided when she again returned to Decatur House for the last two days of her life. She was at peace there, surrounded by the profound love and care of the staff. And we were so assured of her gentle passage into a new life with God.
Thank you, Decatur House and beloved staff for making our Mom’s life so bright and truly caring for her every need. How I wish every elder person could receive the care which you deliver. In loving memory of our dear Mom.

My parents were in need of more care than their living situation provided. My Dad had been withdrawing into himself the last few years but at Decatur House he is going on outings, going to resident meetings and enjoying the activities provided. It is a huge boon to me as their daughter to know they are being cared for so well. The staff is wonderful, the medical care is top notch. When I visit, I enjoy being with them. Their needs are being taken care of in a loving and supportive way.”
Decatur House offered me an apartment for living space as a place of safety and support where I had known danger and chaos; civility and camaraderie where I had known the indifference of a cold world. Mostly, it was the personal care and support of the staff, beginning with the leadership, that welcomed me back into the world of safety and civility. Thank you, Decatur House!

We found Decatur House in Oct. 2021. After touring many assisted living facilities across the Cape, after seeing what Decatur House had to offer, our minds were made up that day. Decatur House has a very homey feel, which is unique for an assisted living. The atmosphere, spacious rooms with lots of light, the wide-range of activities, gardens and delicious home-cooked meals makes the Decatur House the perfect fit for our aunt. We visit and leave happy and relieved that our loved one has such nice staff and friends looking out for her.
We love everything about the Decatur House! My aunt is very happy there and that makes us happy. She is safe and cared for. She loves the activities.
