Decatur House is happy to welcome Thalia Lei as our new Activities Manager. Thalia brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and creativity to her role, and we look forward to having her leading our activities program.
As Activities Manager, Thalia will oversee all programming, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations. She will also manage our volunteer program, plan engaging activities, and develop the monthly activities calendar to provide meaningful experiences for our residents.
When asked what she enjoys most about working with seniors, Thalia shared, “Older people are genuine and have accomplished great things. They have a lot of wisdom to share.”
Some of her favorite activities from her previous role include poetry club, “The Spelling Bee Game,” cooking and baking demonstrations, and the “test kitchen” program – where residents cook one of their recipes together.
Thalia is excited to bring her ideas and experience to Decatur House! If you detect a slight southern drawl, it is because Thalia was born and raised in Oklahoma. She later moved to Texas, where she spent her young adult years and raised her daughter.
While in Texas, she earned an Associate’s Degree in Library Technology. When her daughter married and moved to Massachusetts, Thalia followed, dedicating her time to become her grandchildren’s nanny in Hingham, MA. She even raised her spirited grand dog golden doodle!
During the pandemic, as her daughter and son-in-law transitioned to remote work, Thalia returned to Oklahoma, where she worked at an independent living community. She started at the front desk but quickly moved into the activities department, discovering a passion for creating engaging programs for older adults.
Thalia found it tough to be so far away from the grands so lucky for us, she recently moved back to Mass.
Thalia currently resides in Hyannis, she enjoys spending her free time with family, sewing, and dabbling in quilting. She describes herself as friendly and easygoing, noting that people often say she “shoots from the hip.”
Fun fact about Thalia? Although she considers herself a dog person, she says she loves funny cat videos!
Executive Director, Sarah Tribuzio said, “We are excited to see Thalia’s creativity enrich our community. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome to Decatur House!”
