Unique in oh-so-many ways, Christine “Chris”
is a refreshing addition to our Decatur House family.
A bit bohemian – in an endearing way – Christine seems most comfortable when barefoot, perhaps a throwback to her martial arts training. When she hears music she spontaneously sings along, often shedding her flip-flops and dancing to the beat.
When Christine laughs – which is often –it is an exuberant eruption that leaves her doubled over in glee.
A Weymouth native with a love of animals, Christine – a devout vegan — showers our resident tail-waggers with hugs and affection.
When it comes to trivia, few can rival Christine, whose eclectic knowledge spans many subjects. She loves music, especially the bluesy jazz stylings of her favorite singer: Lena Horne.
Christine spent many years as an administrative secretary, a sometimes stressful position where she was entrusted with highly sensitive legal documents and correspondence.
“But everything changed in 1992, when I [experienced] stroke symptoms,” she said. “So, at 37, I made a complete career change.”
Christine left her position at a major law firm, attended a school of esthetics, and became licensed to practice skin care. One of her first jobs was with a modeling agency, applying make-up for models about to be photographed.
“The men were awesome!” she said, with a laugh. “I cured their unibrows without inflicting pain.”
She and her brother, Leonard, were extremely close, and in 2012 bought a home together in Sandwich. Leonard’s health declined, however, and he passed away only two years later.
While nobody could replace a sibling, Christine has found a great pal in Judy Ryan, a fellow resident with whom she felt an instant connection.
“That doesn’t happen often,” Christine said. “But sometimes you meet somebody and it’s just simpatico!”
