Addie sat on the patio admiring the colorful garden. She said she hadn’t developed any gardening skills, because she never had anywhere to grow things in Boston, where she grew up and lived mostly her whole life.
Her family was a hardworking, strict, but loving mother and father and two older brothers that were charged with looking after her. She laughingly said that sometimes she wished they would go away when she was playing with her girlfriends, but her brothers took their responsibility very seriously.
Addie went to parochial schools and maintained a fondness for “the nuns.” “They were very good to us,” she smiled.
Addie described herself as a homebody, “not a millionaire,” just “normal.” She, being quite petite is often described as cute, quiet, even a little feisty, Italian and a good cook. She often helped her mother who was known a “great” cook. They rolled enough meatballs to go with the red sauce and pasta they made and ate at least three times a week. When asked if she ever got tired of eating it, she replied, “Nev-a” It was that delicious!
After graduating business school where she learned shorthand, she was hired at Corp Engineers, she married, and later adopted her son, Chris who resides in Maine.
One thing surprising about Addie that shouldn’t be, is that she loves to travel. As a child, she visited her aunt and uncle in Rome. And as a young woman, she moved to Italy with two girlfriends where she continued her career, even after returning to Boston.
Since coming to Decatur House, Addie still sees many of her old friends. If you would like to learn more about Addie’s new friends, join us at social hour where a petite, fun, and interesting lady shares a little wine and a lot of laughs.
