The month of May brought us lovely spring weather, the biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history and a welcome contingent of new additions to our burgeoning Decatur House family.

Sandra enjoys a painting activity!
The newcomers have quickly become involved in community life, even daring to try some new experiences. With a little urging, fledgling painters Joe, Patty and Sandra participated in a recent art class led by visiting artist Sandy Taylor. Each of the budding Picassos created an impressive acrylic painting of a cherry tree, on a canvas suitable for hanging.
The patio has once again become the go-to place to visit with family, socialize with fellow residents, participate in group activities or just relax in the sun.
Decatur House owner and founder Linda Austin is continually tweaking our landscaping, décor and furnishings. One of her latest touches is the new jigsaw puzzle table, nestled cozily into a corner of the sunroom. The spot has proved to be an instant hit with staff and residents alike who enjoy working together to reconstruct the challenging puzzles.
Linda also introduced us to Kathleen Warren, whose crystal bowls, ocean drum and other soundwave-producing devices promoted relaxation — and elicited smiles — among captivated residents.
The contest to name our two new parakeets received an overwhelming number of entries. The final vote produced two memorable and nostalgic monikers: Ozzie and Harriet.
