Decatur House is delighted to welcome back Cynthia Rose as the Food Service Director. A resident of Buzzards Bay, Cynthia previously worked at Decatur House for three years before taking a two-year hiatus to gain experience at Bobby Burnes restaurant in Mashpee. Now, she’s returned to bring her renowned comfort food classics to the residents.
When asked about her decision to return, Cynthia shared that she wanted to “come home.” While her time in the restaurant business was thrilling and filled with learning, she found it chaotic and demanding with long hours. Decatur House, she explained, offers a sense of family and a close-knit teamwork environment that she deeply values.
Cynthia has a special place in her heart for the older adults she serves, and she’s eager to reconnect with both longtime friends and new faces among the residents. With her 89-year-old mother and experience as a mother of five and guardian to her 16-year-old grandson, Cynthia relates closely to the residents and appreciates the wisdom they share about their lives and families.
Among her culinary favorites are cheesecakes, which she’s excited to make, alongside other comforting, classic dishes. For this fall, Cynthia plans to bring comfort foods to the table based on the preferences of the residents. Some requested dishes already on the menu include turkey croquettes with mashed potatoes, fish and chips, French meat pies, and a variety of homemade desserts. Her approach is simple: to make whatever makes the residents happy.
The Decatur House team is thrilled to have Cynthia back, knowing that her warm presence and delicious meals will be enjoyed by all. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback and meal suggestions, as Cynthia and the entire kitchen staff are eager to ensure everyone feels at home.
Before coming to Decatur House Morgan worked as Sous Chef at the Daniel Webster Inn. He has worked in the restaurant business, all over the country, most of his adult life, most recently in Georgia before moving to Sandwich.
He said that his dad worked in the hotel business as a Chef and that the family moved often for his dad’s career. Nowadays, his dad is retired and he and Morgan’s mom live in Sandwich and help Morgan to raise his two young sons, ages 3 and 5, for which he’s eternally grateful.
Morgan says the 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. schedule at Decatur House is perfect for spending time with his kids. He says that when he’s not working, he’s outside with the kids or gardening.
Decatur House welcomes Cynthia and Morgan, and of course is grateful to have Chef Jodie in the kitchen too. If you have any suggestions, your feedback and ideas are important and they want to hear from you!
