In the short time since joining us, Nancy Clark has wasted no time in acclimating herself to Decatur House life. A familiar presence at bingo, afternoon socials and music events, she is carving out a routine that suits her own structured lifestyle.
A Needham native, Nancy spent most of her life in Marshfield, where she and her late husband, William, raised a family of three. “We had three houses,” she said. “Every child that came along meant a bigger house.”
A hands-on kind of gal, Nancy painted each house herself – inside and out.
Nancy has a special affinity for Martha’s Vineyard, where she met her husband and spent much time. Her fashion style evokes a “Vineyard-casual” vibe.
A typical Virgo, Nancy is analytical, detail-oriented and organized, skills that helped her create a lifelong career.
“I took the H&R Block [tax preparer’s] course, and then did that for 30 years,” she said, describing tax seasons as, “busy, busy, busy and money, money, money.” “But every year, after April 15th I was out of work!” she added.
In what would be called a “side hustle” in today’s lingo, Nancy tapped her specialized skills to create a unique niche job for herself: she maintained and organized businesses’ critical I9 forms, which verify employees’ work status.
Nancy lived and worked on Florida’s Gulf Coast for more than a decade, but returned north due to the pandemic.
Some of her interests and hobbies include antiques, genealogy – the study of family roots and lineages – golf, cribbage and playing games on her iPad.
Next on Nancy’s to-do list is to find residents who share her affinity for cribbage.
