It seems that September sped by in a flash, yet we managed to make the most of each day.
For starters, a group of residents enjoyed a luncheon outing to Captain Scott’s Restaurant – Jane’s favorite local eatery – which is renowned for its native seafood and popular Greek specialties.
The meal was unrushed and leisurely, as most summer visitors to the Cape had returned home. Residents have asked to add another restaurant outing, in October, when Indian Summer should provide the perfect setting.
We saw a marked increase in activity on the patio, as the oppressive heat and humidity began to subside. Several residents enjoyed al fresco lunches with family members, meals made more comfortable by a gentle, cooling breeze.
Sports fans continued rooting for the Red Sox to make the playoffs, and hailed the return of pro football as their Patriots took to the field.
A group of new residents attended artist Wendi C. Smith’s painting class, where each created their own rendering of a colorful sunset. The paintings will be framed and returned to the artists to display for friends and family.
The popular Mike Dardis was back to entertain us with his musical stylings, and this month will bring a long-awaited return visit by songstress Julie Charland, another Decatur House favorite.
Ellen and Emma — two of our summer volunteers – have offered to come in occasionally to lead a Sunday afternoon bingo session. Our third volunteer, Sydney, is away at school. She will be back during vacations to play the violin for us again, accompanied by Lourana, our resident pianist.
