Kyle Sprague was first introduced to Decatur House during his internship program at Upper Cape Technical High School (UCT). He participated in the School’s Health Careers Program.
For several years, Decatur House has had a community partnership with the school and welcomed a group of UCT juniors to the nursing staff. In turn, the CNA-certified students are paid employees who spend 30-hrs a week, every other week, assisting with resident-care at Decatur House.
Students benefit from the practical experience and mentorship they receive at Decatur House, while staff and residents benefit from the students’ newly learned skills, commitment, and youthful enthusiasm.
Kyle joined the program in 2022, and has been returning to work each summer and on school breaks ever since. Today, he attends Springfield College where he is majoring in Accounting and will graduate next June.
Kyle has learned many important life lessons working at Decatur House, including the importance of loving your job and treating all people with dignity. “I enjoy the residents and my co-workers at Decatur House. It’s not just an assisted living, it is their home and a great community.”
