Here Comes the Sun!
The lyrics from this popular song seem appropriate after a record-breaking winter and so far, a very soggy spring. Cloudless days brought out bright smiles and even some singing: Here-Comes-the-Sun..
Regardless, we don’t let the weather stop us here. We started April with an indoor Easter egg hunt. Staff had as much fun hiding the eggs as residents did finding them. See photo of Marilyn with her Easter eggs above. We played games and enjoyed refreshments. Cynthia provided a lovely Easter dinner. By reminiscing, we realized that we had observed most every traditional element; some in fun non-traditional ways.
Springtime BINGO was a fun change, prizes like a seed starter kit, seed packets, and little terracotta planters held the theme (and the hope) that sunny days were on their way.
Working out with Kristen, Tai Chi with Donna, and streaming various challenging workouts helped to keep our bodies strong for future outdoor enjoyment. See the photo of Francine and Mary Clare participating in Walking Group above.
Readers Theater: creative skit dramatizations, and the Book Readers Group provided entertainment from the very cerebral to the hilarious.
Besides Easter, April was filled with many private celebrations, a lot of birthdays! We celebrated Chuck S., Ben M., Christine T., Bernadette M., and Donna G.
Donna G. hosted a private birthday celebration in her apartment for one of her new friends. This set off a chain reaction that has strengthened and deepened this circle of friendship. It’s by no means exclusive, while old friends may be the best-new friends can be pretty great too.
Life isn’t all revelry, at Decatur House there is time and space for quieter reflections, remembrances and devotions . Father Jack and Brother Mike from Corpus Christi Church brought mass for the devout. For the seeker Ruth Blais hosted a new bible study and Earl Owen returned to fellowship with our Veterans group. For some residents, these quieter moments help to center and provide purpose.
For those that find meaning and relaxation from the arts, local artists’ L’eonie Little -Lex and Mary Shea returned. Under their tutelage, In-house artists yielded impressive spring -themed still life paintings that are on display around the house.
For Music lovers, enjoying an outing to Cape Cod Symphony for Natures Song: Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons.” Was a special treat. As was the movie Song Sung Blue. Where Neil Diamond’s greatest hits were covered. We watched other terrific movies too. Out of Africa, Grey Hound, One Life and The Old Man and the Sea.
We had take-out from the favored Kruah Khan Rose and people were happy to visit Buzzard Bay’s infamous Mezza Luna for a delicious meal and happy memories. See photo above.
If April’s warm weather preview is any indication of what to expect in May, we’ll soon be singing: Here-Comes- the-Fun!
