Still Running Toward What Matters Most
Born and raised in Taunton, Massachusetts, Christine’s life has always followed the rhythm of a runner on the starting line – focused, determined, and propelled by heart.
As a young girl watching her brother’s baseball games, she discovered her love of running in the open spaces around the field. What began as childhood laps soon evolved into a lifelong passion. Christine graduated from Taunton High School, where she not only competed, but excelled. Her talent and discipline earned her a full track scholarship to Northeastern University, a milestone that marked the first major turn on her personal track.
Surrounded by family and close friends who worked in criminal justice, Christine naturally pursued a BA in Criminal Justice. But as she crossed that academic finish line, she sensed the field wasn’t her true lane.
Following her mother to Cape Cod, she began working at the Shawme-Crowell Forest Campground, where she discovered a new spark: working with children, creating activities, and nurturing their curiosity. It was here that Christine realized she had found her true direction. Returning to school, she earned her Master’s in Early Childhood Education from Bridgewater State University and began teaching kindergarten in Mashpee.
She spent five joyful years in the classroom before life surprised her with a blind date. Christine jokes it was love at first sight, at least for her, but fate had a way of keeping pace. She and Pete quickly built a life together, married for 27 years and raising two children while living in Connecticut, where Pete served as a state police officer and Christine dedicated herself to being a full-time homemaker.
After 9/11, the family returned to Massachusetts when a position opened with the Massachusetts State Police. After 12 years at home, Christine stepped back onto her career path – first as a kindergarten teacher, then with ParentChild+, visiting homes with toys, books, and games to strengthen early learning and family connections. During these years, she balanced work, raising her children, and caring for her aging father, whose growing needs deepened her compassion and sparked a new calling: supporting older adults.
That calling led her directly to Decatur House, where Christine now brings her energy, warmth, and reliability to the residents every day. She serves breakfast, drives individuals to appointments, and is becoming increasingly involved in the activities department. True to her nature, Christine gives her whole heart to every lane she enters.
One thing many may not know: Christine was recently inducted into the Taunton High School Athletic Hall of Fame for her longstanding track and field achievements. It may surprise some, but for anyone who has worked alongside her, the qualities that made her a record‑setting athlete, discipline, focus, resilience, and an unwavering work ethic, are unmistakable.
Christine has chosen to dedicate this next phase of her life to the people of Decatur House, and it could not be a more fitting match. We are happy to have her here!
