If you saw an orange flash a few years ago on the streets of Cape Cod … it just may have been Sally Cobb passing you on her bright orange motorcycle!
Sally was born in Bradford, PA and grew up in Little Valley, NY – a small farming community in western New York. She had one brother named, John and they liked to ice skate in the winter. Their grandparents had dairy farms. Her mother, Dorothy, was a nurse and a very kind person with a wonderful sense of humor. She braided Sally’s hair every morning before school. Her father, Alvin, was a salesman. She had a best friend named, Osa. Sally graduated from Little Valley High School and earned her associates degree from Alfred University.
Sally had an interesting career path over the years. She worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, as a medical secretary, in hospitalities and as a salesperson for Gatorade.
It was during her tenure as a medical secretary that she met her children’s father, Win Cobb III. He broke his leg skiing and she met him at the doctor’s office where she worked in 1962.
Together Sally and Win welcomed 3 children: Susan, Winslow IV, and Nate. They lived in Sudbury, MA and East Dennis, MA. Sally said, “We lived in an old sea captain’s house in East Dennis. My kids were involved in sports and my husband liked to take them fishing and skiing. We always had a dog and I liked to play tennis.”
Described by her children as inquisitive, observant, and family-oriented, Sally says that her three children and 5 grandchildren: Liz, Ryan, Grace, Lilly, and Zach, are her proudest accomplishments in life and her greatest joys.
Her children say that Sally is a devoted mom who loves them dearly. Her son, Nate, and daughter, Susan, came to the Decatur House Christmas Party this year and she had a nice time visiting with them. See photo!
Pastimes that Sally enjoys include working on puzzles, reading her devotionals and spending time with family. She especially loves listening to Perry Como and watching Family Feud and the Lawrence Welk show. She also likes playing bingo and going out with Linda on the driving tours of Sandwich. “It’s a lot of fun to sing and dance when the musicians perform the songs that we all remember,” she said. Sally also loves animals, and is a big fan of the Decatur House mascots – pug dogs Evie, Maggie and Rorie. See photo!
