Decatur House is thrilled to welcome Kerri Smith as the newest member of the Activities Team. She’ll direct the program in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local standards and regulations.
As Activities Coordinator, Kerri will manage the volunteer program at Decatur House, and plan all activities and develop the monthly activities calendar with Karen Horn our CNA and Co-Activities Coordinator.
Kerri has nearly a decade of experience working with older adults from her previous role at the front desk of Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care Office in Sandwich. “I really enjoyed working with patients and helping them,” said Kerri. “We had over 3,000 patients and usually when we saw them, they were concerned about something, or sick or sad. Helping to ease their burden just a little bit by being kind and helpful was rewarding,” she said.
What Kerri says she’s looking forward to most at Decatur House is really getting to know the residents, and learning all about their life experiences and doing all of the things that make them happiest. “I love older people. They have so much wisdom, and often humor, to share. I appreciate being at Decatur House where they are given the accommodations, patience, time and attention they deserve,” she explained.
Kerri is a long-time resident of Bourne, where she lives with her senior rescue cat. She earned two Bachelor’s Degrees in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Westfield State University and graduated cum laude. She is from a “close-knit” family that loves to do things together. Her sister has twin 9-year-olds who she loves spending time with, especially boating in the summertime!
