October came in like a lion and went out like a lion, with a fierce roaring storm that felled centuries-old trees and knocked out power for much of Cape Cod.
But thanks to our powerful generator, life at Decatur House went on in nearly normal fashion.
October saw us paint with Wendi C. Smith, sing along with Mike Dardis, and welcome the return of popular vocalist Julie Charland. Donna’s daughter, Jana, settled in at the baby grand to lead a rousing Name that Tune contest, won handily by Jeanette.
On a sadder note, we watched with chagrin as our Red Sox were eliminated from World Series contention, while our Patriots’ season got off to a bumpy, yet promising, start.
A sizeable group of residents enjoyed lunching at the historic Sagamore Inn, and there has been some chatter about a possible return visit this month.
Our scenic drives, hosted by our Cape-savvy driver, Linda, have allowed residents to witness autumn’s foliage transitions from vivid hues of red, orange and yellow to burnt crimson and tawny browns.
And with mixed emotions we gave a warm sendoff to Maria, our senior housekeeper—who will spend November in Brazil at her family’s cattle ranch, which is still run by her 92-year-old mother. Safe travels—and happy birthday November 15—Maria!
