As the new school year approaches, we wish to acknowledge the contributions of Ellen and Sydney, two young volunteers who spent part of their summer vacations assisting with our activities.
And before returning to school, Sydney, an accomplished violinist, will treat us to a performance featuring classical music and old standards.
In the meantime, our hankering for music was quenched by singer and musician Mike Dardis, whose return visit thrilled his many Decatur House fans.
I scream, you scream, we all screamed for the ice cream truck, which delighted residents and staff alike with its first visit of the summer.
Artist Wendi Smith assisted residents in creating their own acrylic paintings of a floral still life. Each lovely painting was nicely framed, courtesy of Decatur House, and returned to the artists.
A new activity—Learn to Play Rummy—was introduced in July, with Jeanne serving as our guest instructor. A group of about six players is enjoying the opportunity to socialize while engaged in good-natured competition.
In our inaugural “Let’s Paint!” monthly art program, each artist created a stunning tropical sunset scene.
Meanwhile, we are already looking forward to our next luncheon, set for August 19, at Sagamore Inn.
