Entering James’ cottage apartment, you are immediately taken in by his display of artwork.
James grew up in Peabody, and was one of five boys. From childhood, he had an interest in art, and as a boy, worked a paper route to raise money for art classes. He went on to choose art as his major in high school.
At Salem State College, however, he majored in language, travel, and tourism. After graduating, he became an electrician and was able to work his way to the top, providing quotes, supervising jobs, and acting as a company-client liaison.
His work as an electrician took him to sites all over Massachusetts, including Newton schools, power plants, water wheels, the French King Bridge, Boston Harbor, Museum of Fine Arts, the MBTA, and the famous gas tanks in Dorchester.
Given the diverse settings and the interactive nature of his work, James was rarely bored.
James’ interest in art continued throughout his travels to Rome, Holland, Belgium, England, Canada, and France. At every stop, he enjoyed taking in local culture and visting places of interest, including wartime cemeteries.
His life has been full of adventure, engagement, and learning. Since moving to Decatur House in 2019, James has become a regular at activities. He has proven to be an expert at Long Word and Trivia and his contributions to our Decatur House Art Show in January displayed his artistic talent.
This accomplished and interesting man has been a great addition to our Decatur House community.
