We had so much fun this month! We kicked things off with a lunch outing to Canalside Dining. Later, we were warmly hosted at Sandwich Montessori Elementary School, where our resident volunteers and the students played games, crafted, practiced social etiquette, and simply enjoyed getting to know one another.
Back at home, movies like Edward Scissorhands and Hocus Pocus brought laughter and nostalgia. Fried Green Tomatoes and A River Runs Through It sparked memories and thoughtful conversations.
We are grateful to Brother Mike Hayes for offering Communion, Kristin Fortas for exercising with us , and Donna Klucevsek for providing wonderful Tai Chi, services that help keep our residents strong inside and out.
Musical performances by Rick Walsh and Gary Landgren had everyone tapping their toes and singing along. Music is magic. It revives the quiet, energizes the tired, and transports us from now to then and back again.
Like music, October is transformative too. It is a time to reinvigorate the young at heart through imagination and creativity. At Decatur House, we leaned into that spirit. Our resident artists learned new techniques and refined familiar ones with guidance from local artists Leonie Little Lex and Mary Shea. We also created beautiful fall floral arrangements with Joyce Fryer. Thank you, Joyce! See photo of Nancy above.
Painted pumpkins and stuffed beetles and spiders (see photos of Lourana and Francine below) turned out far too cute to be scary, just like the trick or treaters who visited on Halloween. Truly a cuteness overload. See photo of our new resident, Jon, with a trick or treater above!
We rounded out the month with an unforgettable karaoke party hosted by Rose Kelly, owner of Krua Khun Rose. Rose brought friends to help serve food and encourage participation. Along with delicious Thai cuisine, there were prizes for costumes and for karaoke performers. Residents and staff had an absolute blast. Our heartfelt thanks to Rose and her friends for being such wonderful and generous Sandwich community neighbors. Thank you for bringing your joy into our home. See photo of Rose singing above!
