In April, Decatur House owners Linda Austin and Sarah Tribuzio met with Sandwich artist Mary Shea to discuss having a mural painted in the new activity room. Mary, the daughter of former resident, Ruth Lawrie, was immediately, according to her, “All in!”
Together they decided Mary would create an image of the iconic Sandwich boardwalk on the long wall above the kitchen counters.
Mary is a long-time resident of Sandwich, and to her no other image of Sandwich represents the heart of the town as the boardwalk does. “As a child it was a rite of passage to jump off the boardwalk. My mother would always take us there and cringe every time we got more daring,” she says.
Mary dedicates the work to her late mother and to the residents at Decatur House and “the amazing staff who took the time to show kindness and compassion.”
Mary says she is grateful for the opportunity to say Thank You! And to that, we say, Thank YOU Mary!
