May was in full bloom at Decatur House! The property was lush with flowering trees, and melodies from sweet songbirds filled the air.
We added additional days of drumfit to the calendar per resident request, which have been well attended. Additionally, the walking club has been gaining new participants. We have been taking nice walks along Main Street, as well as through our gardens.
Speaking of gardens, residents have been getting out in the sunshine and have started to do some gardening. Chef Alana loves having the homegrown fresh herbs to use in her cooking at her fingertips!
We’ve also been going on scenic drives with Linda around town, sometimes stopping at the Canal to watch the freighters.
Service dog Cotton and her owner, Hank have been coming in each Friday morning to spread their joy and kindness. Residents love giving Cotton treats when she does her tricks.
Resident Maggie’s daughter, Malu, came to the House and played her crystal sound bowls and Susan Lee Nolan performed Reiki massage. Residents said that they really enjoyed this and felt relaxed and recharged.
Artist Leonie came to the house to do a painting class with residents. They painted beautiful vases of flowers with bright spring colors.
As for live music, Matt York came in and performed, as did Janice Hannah, our wonderful volunteer who we are happy to have back from Florida. She will be joining us playing the piano for social hour a few times each month.
We also celebrated Memorial Day with a delicious cookout on the patio. Chef Alana grilled up burgers and hot dogs, served with potato salad, corn salad, watermelon and popsicles. Residents enjoyed watching the Memorial Day Parade go by the house. They were waving to the parade participants singing along and enjoying every moment! See photo above!
