Hard Work and Dreams.
Decatur House represents the goals and dreams of Linda and Steve Austin to build and manage an assisted living residence. They didn't build just an ordinary assisted living community, but they built one that offers residents a beautiful and intimate setting where their individual needs are met. The husband-and-wife team personally oversees each and every detail that is critical to the daily operation of a first-class assisted living residence.
They have made Decatur House's goal into a daily reality: to be a one of a kind community that achieves excellence in elder residential care.
What distinguishes Decatur House from other assisted living communities?
- Beautiful and inviting common areas, including several interior sunrooms and three exterior porches with comfortable seating.
- Large, plasma, high-definition flat-screen television, for those with visual impairments.
- Spacious living room with gas log fireplace and library.
- Formal dining room.
- Four-season, glass-walled garden room for dining and activities.
- Furnishing like home.
In addition to these amenities, Decatur House is surrounded by beautifully tended gardens, filled with perennials such as foxglove, lupine, hostas, daisies, and several day varieties of lilies. Dexter rhododendrons and azaleas abound on the grounds.
Blooming gardens are visible from each and every room at Decatur House from April through October. In the winter, evergreens such as umbrella pine, blue spruce plus American and English hollies touched by snow create a lovely, outdoor New England scene.
We welcome the opportunity to personally show you our unique home, and impeccable landscaped grounds. Please call 508-888-6404 or fill out our inquiry form to schedule your tour of our residence. To learn more online, click here to see the Decatur House Photo Album or read our testimonials here.
A Letter from Linda P. Austin
Unity and a sense of family are not easily created in a large assisted living community. I'm pleased that we are small and unique. Residents aren't invisible and are considered as part of our family. They get many hugs! One resident visits with her husband everyday in the nursing home because I believe it is important for both of them. Our excellent food service is prepared by our experienced chef daily. Everything is fresh and carefully cooked to perfection. She does a remarkable job and her desserts are incredible!
When we pick flowers in our gardens, we choose them for the common area rooms, as well as for all the residents' rooms too. We offer transportation on a daily basis; we can take everyone out several times a week. Our residents are coming and going all the time. We provide a natural rhythm of life, it's the lifestyle they remember; in some cases, residents have greater opportunity to be more active at Decatur House than they did at home. Socialization is important at any age. Here you have the option of being as social as you choose.
At Decatur House, it's not like walking into a hotel instead it's like walking into your own home. And we're not an "a la carte" facility. Our residents may take a shower as often as they want because they tell us what their needs are. Medication reminders and monitoring are included in the monthly fee.
We have made changes since we first opened in 1999. Our high standards certainly haven't changed, but we've met the changing needs of our residents. The residents who live here help to create the friendly positive atmosphere of Decatur House. Warm and welcoming! Flexibility is very important in the day to day operation of an assisted living. Because we are small, it's easier to respond to the changing needs and interests of each resident. Families know that we advocate for their loved ones and that we have their best interest in mind.
Steve and I have been given the opportunity to do this work and we love it!
Come and see for yourself what Decatur House offers to its residents.
